New Funding - New Sessions

FUNDING LEADS TO SCHEDULE RESTRUCTURE FOR JUDO SESSIONS.

The meeting with the BJA Development Officer Stacey Smithson in January has proved fruitful as we have secured funding with BJA & sportessex through the sport unlimited programme offering young people (16- 19yrs) in Harlow an eight week beginner’s course in judo basics.

In order to promote this opportunity we have launched a Facebook campaign, flyers and organised an Open Day at the Edge for members to bring a friend and try judo and sign up for an eight week beginner’s course. The Open Day Sunday 11th April and will start at 10am-11am for a Girls Only session followed by the Boys Only session 1130am-1230pm.

The course has allowed us to restructure our class schedule and as a result have been able to structure the week. Monday 7pm session is now for the Edge Young Men Beginners and Tuesday 6pm session is now for the Edge Young Ladies Beginners.

These classes will continue to run after the eight week course, be ongoing and we will be encouraging a long term working toward the new intake to be in a position where the young people can grade, compete, be active in the club environment forming relationships with other members of the Edge community.

An opportunity for us to add a brand new Beginners Class on Thursday for the U12`s judo section has arisen. This allows us to change the Wednesday 5 30pm session to cater for the Edge Junior Squad, which we have made an invite session.

CRASH MAT DONATION
We received a very generous donation from one of our most supportive families The Bruton`s aka The “Oh No Boy`s” (Adam, Gill, Callum, Joesph, Cierien & Jamie) which after much deliberation have used to purchase a Nage Komi Crash mat that will enable us to execute a different range of Ashi Waza techniques during Nage Komi sessions. Very big THANKS from us and I am sure from all Edge members to you for this very generous donation.

TESCO VOUCHERS
The voucher scheme has started and we have till May to collect our target figure of 28,000
This year we would like to go high tech and get the Video Camcorder and the Projector so we can take our athletes to the next level with some Performance, contest, technique Analysis etc., live stream Judo tournaments and run our own fight nights (race nights) developing the social side of our club.

CLUB MARK
James volunteered and put himself forward to undertake this massive task on behalf of the club to work through paperwork bringing the club up to government standard and help us achieve Clubmark status. Since receiving the Clubmark Pack, after reading through the rhetoric, he has applied for and been offered employment in Sydney, Australia and hopes to be down under by May 2010. We obviously wish him all the best in his new adventure and would like to remind him that the Clubmark Pack will be in the filling cabinet with his name on it for the day he returns home.

EDGE GB U70 & O78 Judo Stars Back In Town

Sally & Sarah back from a successful training trip to Japan and from the 5th April – 16th April will be in the BJPI Dartford preparing for the Senior European Championships in Vienna, Austria on the 21st April.

The girls may be free to make a guest appearance at our planned Open Day on Sunday 11th April from 10am

School ‘n Club Vouchers

Hi All,

Last year we all did an amazing job in collecting enough schools n club vouchers to obtain a new crash matt, tackle pad, swiss balls, heart rate monitors etc. A lot of fun and hard training has taken place and been enjoyed by all due to the extra equipment.

We would like to ask for your help and support again, this year we would like to purchase a camcorder and projector...to capture edgy memories for all to share, for performance discussion for our Judo Players and Kickboxers...this will be something we can all benefit from on different levels and continue to keep us on the cutting Edge of Training!!

We are aiming for a massive 26,000 vouchers....this would enable s to get both...but either one of these would be great...it is a huge ask...but if we don't aim high...we will never know.

Please get your family and friends on board and see how close we can get.
